For: B.C.-based companies looking to develop clean energy solutions

The B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) funds the commercial development and scaleup of B.C.-based clean energy solutions. Focusing on technologies with a TRL between 4-9, the fund seeks to achieve net-negative emissions in B.C.  The $10-million 2024 Call for Innovation will prioritize projects in four focus areas: Low carbon hydrogen, Low carbon bio and synthetic fuels, Carbon management, and Battery technology and energy storage.

Expressions of Interest for the 2024 CICE Call for Innovation will be accepted from January 24 until February 29, 2024.    

For: Saskatchewan-based agricultural organizations looking to commercialize agriculture technologies

The Agtech Growth Fund, delivered by Innovation Saskatchewan, is an R&D funding program which aims to accelerate the commercialization of innovations in Saskatchewan’s agricultural sector. Areas of focus include digital agriculture hardware/software, smart farm equipment, animal health, agrifood supply chain, and agricultural marketplace and fintech.

The Agtech Growth Fund will be accepting Expressions of Interest until April 30, 2023.

For: Ontario-based agri-food producers and processors looking to increase production capacity, efficiency, and cyber security through technology investments

Under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the $25-million Agri-Tech Innovation Initiative will open in February. The program will provide funding to support Ontario agri-food producers and processors in investing in innovative technology, equipment, or processes that will facilitate enhanced efficiency, cyber security, or production capacity. Up to 35-50% of project costs may be covered, depending on the project size.

Applications to the Agri-Tech Innovation Initiative will be accepted on an ongoing basis beginning on February 15, 2024. NorthBridge will provide further updates once the program guidelines have been released.

For: Nova Scotia-based companies looking to increase transportation connectivity in communities

The Connect2 Program offers funding to Nova Scotia companies working on transportation projects that improve connectivity in communities in Nova Scotia. The program consists of three streams: Active transportation infrastructure and design, Shared mobility and bicycle fleets, and Capacity building and community engagement. Successful applicants can receive up to 75% project costs covered, with funding varying depending on the stream.

Applications to the Connect2 Program will be accepted on an ongoing basis until March 4, 2024

For: Companies based in Newfoundland and Labrador looking to advance mineral discoveries

The Junior Exploration Assistance program supports mineral exploration activities in Newfoundland and Labrador, with the aim of growing the mineral inventory and increasing the competitiveness of the province as a mineral exploration destination. Projects based in Newfoundland can receive up to $150,000 in grants, while projects based in Labrador can receive up to $225,000.

The 2024 call for applications for Junior Exploration Assistance has opened, with Letters of Interest due by June 21, 2024.
